Ad Hoc Records presents ‘Duck Tape’, the second single from forthcoming Burnt EP by Simona Drive and Alps 2. An ostensibly understated offering, ‘Duck Tape’ fizzes with tape-made warmth and anticipation: listen in for lo-fi Bonobo stylings juxtaposed with adroitly minimal Four Tet drops. On the single, they explain that “Duck is a song that we pained over for months, working first with a live vocalist, dozens of different arrangements and versions, until one day, now sick to death of a song we had no doubt overworked and come to a dead-end with, we decided to completely remake it in under an hour as see what happened. The result was a new sampled vocal, a simple arrangement and a substantially stronger tune. Infinitely more happy with the fruits of just one hour’s work compared with the days and weeks we’d previously spent on it, we finished it as quickly as we had embarked on its wholesale change.”
Simona Drive and Alps 2 are outfits with a pedigree: as performers, Simona Drive have toured with Maribou State; as individuals, they have released on Ralph Lawson’s 2020 Vision and Fatboy Slim’s Southern Fried Records. And as a collective, they’ve launched Selby Soul, receiving support from Radio 6 Music. Now, Ad Hoc Records proudly presents Simona Drive and Alps 2 on Burnt EP, alongside Manchester legend, Goddard, on remix duties.
