Backstage at Drôle de Monsieur Fall/Winter 2024

Drôle de Monsieur unfurls their Fall-Winter 2024 line in a historic debut fashion show, a decade in the making from Dany dos Santos and Maxime Schwab’s Dijon origins. Ascending from quiet corners, they’ve spawned a realm fueled by a quirky nostalgia, weaving the minimal with the lavish, and the refined with the grandiose—ingredients to their distinctive tale.

Their brainchild is akin to a cinematic escape from Renzo Mongiardino’s blueprint—an Italian mastermind who twisted the 20th century with his decorative marvels, and now, the muse for their runway revelation.

Evoking eras when Mongiardino’s grand sets defied modernist tides, Drôle de Monsieur conjures a collection that’s a sartorial cauldron of time, blending ornate ’70s grandeur with ’90s understated cool. The collection is a homage to dichotomies, tailored for a cast ranging from Stallone’s machismo to Puffy’s suave, from Pavarotti’s opulence to the Bee Gees’ groove.

The shapes sing sonnets of yesteryears—a potpourri of eras and echoes—in denim rodeos and disco dazzles, bridged by tastefully dated accessories that sit on the cusp of retro and renegade. Each ensemble parades with a bravado that’s rooted yet extravagantly adrift, winking at Mongiardino’s love for the extreme.

Just as Mongiardino ornamented spaces, Drôle de Monsieur’s show chronicles a clothing anthology that venerates personality, chiselling out wearable stories in the stereotypes of ready-to-wear allegiance.
