Institutional Metamorphosis: How PLATTE Berlin and the New FASHION BLOCK Finally Secured the Infrastructure Our Scene Deserves

Let’s be completely honest: the Berlin fashion scene would be absolutely nothing without PLATTE Berlin. For years, they have been the beating heart, the subcultural anchor, and the fierce protectors of real local talent in this city. While the political sphere talked in circles about supporting creatives, PLATTE Berlin was on the ground doing the actual work. Now, a massive victory has arrived. On June 18, 2026, the Senate Department for Economic Affairs and the District Office of Berlin-Mitte joined forces with them to unveil FASHION BLOCK, a brand-new, dedicated creative hub right at Alexanderplatz (Memhardstraße 6).

As fashion professionals who have watched the continuous struggle of independent labels in this city, we are loudly celebrating this project. Is it years too late? Absolutely. The city should have commercialised and protected creative spaces a decade ago. But it is finally here, and it is a massive milestone for Berlin’s cultural survival.

The Full Value Chain, Protected

FASHION BLOCK isn’t just another temporary pop-up space or superficial runway venue. It is an enduring, productive infrastructure designed to support designers, independent labels, and growing brands across their entire evolutionary cycle. Overseen and expanded via the vital expertise of PLATTE Berlin, this new location bridges the gap between raw underground artistry and international economic viability.

The hub will physically house:

Specialised production and development workshops.

B2B networking networks and structural retail spaces.

Flexible showroom and presentation formats.

Entrepreneurial qualification programs for small and medium-sized labels.

The Blueprint for a Creative Future

What makes FASHION BLOCK revolutionary is that it prioritises the invisible work—the gruelling back-end processes of sourcing, technical design, distribution networks, and economic survival. By expanding on PLATTE Berlin’s groundbreaking community work, the new space guarantees that emerging designers from Mitte, Pankow, and the broader Berlin landscape have solid, state-backed spaces to scale their visions without losing their edgy, radical identities.

We salute PLATTE Berlin for pushing this city’s infrastructure forward. This is the structural foundation Berlin fashion has desperately needed, and we cannot wait to watch it completely transform the local creative economy.
