A man in armour, surrounded by crows, bones scattered at his feet, is a collective image of a civilisation that has proclaimed itself the king of nature, but time and again leaves behind only ashes and ruins. The armour protects him from the outside world, but not from himself: it is this armour of ambition and permissiveness that has turned the planet into an arena of endless consumption.
The footage suggests that every environmental disaster, be it the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the destruction of the Amazon rainforest, the melting of the Arctic ice, is not an accident or a coincidence, but the logical conclusion of the same story: man takes everything from the earth without giving anything back, convincing himself that progress justifies any price. And the crows—ancient messengers of death and destruction in the mythology of almost all the peoples of the world—sit next to him not as enemies, but as the most honest witnesses: they knew how it would end even before he put on the crown.
