BACKSTAGE AT KOLO S/S27: An Intimate Glimpse into Berlin’s Raw Elegance

Berlin Fashion Week always brings a certain kind of electric tension to the city, but yesterday, things felt different. Instead of the usual sterile runway setups, I found myself tucked away in the heart of the KOLO Berlin studio. All photos by Anna Nowalska-Duda.

When you strip away the front-row politics and the flashing lights, there’s something incredibly raw about seeing a collection in the very space where the needles hit the fabric.

Yesterday’s presentation was exactly that—an intimate, unfiltered look into the creative womb of KOLO’s Spring-Summer ’27 collection. Moving through the racks, you could feel the philosophy of the brand hanging in the air: it’s not about loud noise or fleeting trends. It’s about that quiet, punchy confidence—sharp, clean silhouettes, heavy-hitter fabrics, and a version of modern tailoring that makes you stop and stare.

The Pulse of the Atelier

By hosting the show in their own atelier, the KOLO team didn’t just put on a display; they opened their doors to their DNA. You could smell the steam from the irons and see the patterns pinned to the walls. It’s a bold move, blurring the line between the finished product and the messy, beautiful reality of the design process.

As the team put it, their collection isn’t just clothing; it’s a dialogue. It’s about the intersection of space, raw material, and the human form. And honestly? Seeing it presented right there, where those sketches first turned into prototypes, felt remarkably personal. It was a refreshing reminder that at the end of the day, fashion is a craft—a tactile, demanding, and deeply human endeavour.

The room was packed with the usual suspects—press, buyers, and fellow creatives—but for once, the setting actually encouraged people to stop rushing to the next appointment. We lingered. We touched the textures. We talked.

KOLO Berlin is proving that you don’t need a massive stage to leave a lasting impression. Sometimes, you need a great vision and the right room to show it off.
