The Legacy of Grey: New Balance’s Grey Days

This May, New Balance honours its heritage with the launch of its annual Grey Days, uniting athletes and ambassadors from the New Balance Family to unveil an exclusive collection in the brand’s iconic grey hue. Throughout the month, the spotlight will be on this timeless colour, featuring new product launches, events, and stories that highlight the enduring influence of grey in fashion and sport.

New Balance first introduced grey in the 1980s for purely functional design reasons. While competitors opted for vibrant neon colours and bright whites, New Balance chose a shade that seamlessly integrated into the urban landscape of running, reflecting the essence of asphalt, concrete, and the city environment. What began as a practical choice quickly evolved into a defining characteristic of the brand, shaping its identity to this day.

This year’s campaign invites fans to delve into the world of New Balance Grey, featuring contributions from notable brand ambassadors like Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Darius Garland, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Andrew Reynolds. The vibrant launch event kicks off with Aminé raising the “Grey Days” flag, while Quincy Wilson offers insights into the origins of this signature colour in his piece “The Origins of Grey.” Each perspective brings a unique touch, while collectively celebrating their shared foundation: the colour grey.

The Grey Days collection will be available throughout May at New Balance stores, online, and at select retailers worldwide, with prices ranging from €40 to €180.
