Crash Course explores the release of emotion buried deep within the body, feelings suppressed, internalised, and waiting for rupture. The project exists in the space where vulnerability collides with desire, where physical movement becomes a form of emotional excavation.

In developing the visual language, we were drawn to tightly framed vignettes charged with emotion and physicality. We searched for references that felt intimate yet confrontational, suspended between tenderness and violence, where desire and destruction become inseparable.

Eva Lawson found inspiration in the works of David Cronenberg, specifically themes found in his 1996 film, Crash and Debbie Harry, who stars in his earlier 1983 film, Videodrome. Two films that depict women in a place of vulnerability, who choose to express their unconventional sensuality, often in violent expressions. Cronenberg’s Crash is a romantic exploration of sexuality and the stickiness of existentialism that accompanies it.
Skye Sobejko channels this atmosphere through her use of texture, shadow, and fractured light patterns, creating imagery that feels both alluring and unsettling, a window into this existentialism. The silver plastic backdrop amplifies the exposure, roughly taped together with visible seams, clamps, folds, and intentionally left imperfections in frame; the set feels fragile, temporary, and emotionally unresolved.
Nicole La Bianca’s background in acting and dance allows her to tap into this emotion and release it through movement in intimately cropped portraits. Her gestures oscillate between restraint and collapse, intimacy and aggression, transforming emotion into something visceral and tangible, a meditation on the body as a site of memory, desire, and emotional rupture.
