Dive Into Dizziness: Rafael Medina’s Vertigem Exhibition Takes Over Pinkdot

Berlin’s cultural landscape will be graced by the evocative works of photographer Rafael Medina in his upcoming exhibition, VERTIGEM, running from November 14th to November 28th, 2024, at Pinkdot gGmbH, nestled at Choriner Str. 51, 10435 Berlin, the vernissage will kick off the event on November 14th at 7:00 PM, inviting art lovers and curious souls to immerse themselves in a sea of analogue memories.

In the VERTIGEM series, Medina skillfully employs analogue double-exposure techniques to deliver a poignant narrative, encapsulating a whirlwind of emotions derived from his poignant return to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after four years spent in the vibrant heart of Berlin. The photographs unveil a compelling dialogue between the familiar and the alien. Medina reflects, “It feels like I was there yesterday, and at the same time like I was never there.”

The exhibition’s title, “Vertigem” — Portuguese for “dizziness” or “vertigo” — astutely captures the unsettling yet exhilarating sensation of revisiting the landscapes of one’s past. Medina’s lens glimpses the profound connections with old friends, witnessing transformations over the years: individuals once familiar are seen anew, encapsulating the essence of both nostalgia and time’s relentless march.
