Down to Your Rawness
In all the flaws of life, within the silver lining there’s beauty. It might not be predominant but it shapes the definition of our everyday aesthetic. Andriana’s aesthetic stems from the Japanese norms of wabi – sabi, where design in its essence gives a sense of serene melancholy and spiritual longing to what has been already been.
Nothing is finished,
Nothing is perfect.
Andriana’s fascination in social, philosophical and visual aspects categorise her as a conceptual designer. She has only recently graduated from the University of Brighton from studying Fashion Design with Business Studies with a specialisation in menswear design. Her practise ranges in the mediums of photography, illustration, videography and the visual arts. Her new collection ‘Down to Your Rawness’ AW 2017, has been launched recently which is lacking in weight, with layering and functionality, where the purpose of the outfits is found internally, allowing the corresponding garments to be free from physical obligations and embraces new ideas of contentment and self-acceptance.
This collection is attempting to evoke the journey of a resourceful man who is working his way through life, from a reference of field workers, to understand his rawest personal needs to reach an enlightened state, inspired by the lives of Tibetan Buddhist monks. A functionally modest approach is the essence of the collection, reflected by the simplicity of workwear garments, through aspects of both humble peasant wear and serene nomadic monk clothing. ‘Down to Your Rawness’ will depict the enlightenment of man through rehearsal of the self in everyday activities. An interesting mixture of unconventional plastics with beautiful satins, highlight the romanticism of how crude allotments may look in contrast to what they represent. A closer look into allotments, through the medium of photography, puts emphasis on the authentic textural approach in fabric qualities and enriched modest fastening details – a reminder that everything stems from primary rawness. Fastenings found in allotments inspire the development of signature detailing of the collection which are translated as fastening, cuffs and belts.
