Dr. Martens opens up new opportunities for young musical talent with Kelvyn Colt and Kyle Flamigni

For six decades, Dr. Martens alongside subcultures are changing the world we live in. The Tough As You initiative builds on this. In cooperation with already established musicians, access to creative opportunities for underrepresented talents is financed and improved.

From the top. Tough As You mentee Kyle Flamigni has lined up a fully-equipped music studio for three up-and-coming artists — PNKSAND, K.ZIA and Leroy Menace — to have full reign over. Working alongside mentor Kelvyn Colt, they’re overseeing full production of the artist’s records in the heart of Berlin.

Rapper Kelvyn Colt has made a name for himself in the music industry from the underground scene. Now he wants to make it easier for the next generation of artists to enter the industry. Together with Kyle Flamigni, one in Berlin Living musicians, producers and engineers, Kelvyn will support young talents in realizing their vision.

AN INITIATIVE SUPPORTING EMERGING AND UNDER-REPRESENTED CREATIVE TALENT

Especially in times of Soundcloud and self-releases, in addition to creative support within the music community, support with equipment and access to a traditional studio is more essential than ever. Not all musicians have the opportunity to work with professional sound systems and modern technology, and it is precise with this lack of infrastructure that Kelvyn and Kyle’s project starts.

The financial support of Dr. Martens, under Kelvyn’s guidance, provides Kyle with a fully-equipped music studio for three aspiring artists – PNKSAND, K.ZIA and Leroy Menace – to freely use. The Reveal Studio is located in the heart of Berlin and will serve as a space for the three talents to produce, write, record and master their individual projects – in collaboration with well-known producers, songwriters and sound engineers from Kyle’s creative network.

Through this creative process, Kelvyn, as a mentor of the project, also wants to promote knowledge sharing, networking and mutual support within the music community. The three young and talented artists were selected jointly by Kyle and Dr. Martens within a multi-stage process and based on various criteria, with the aim of actively supporting less privileged and talented musicians from Berlin.
