This Is My Culture is the lead single from Le Filosophical – the new EP by Drag Race UK star Le Fil. “This Is My Culture is a defiant song about what you can achieve with a strong support system around you. I left the competition with mixed feelings about my experiences, and I turned to write music to feel better. This song really captures everything I felt, but with an optimistic spin. I would not have been able to get where I am without my queer family, my Asian family, my creative family, and my fans – all of whom whose love and support have helped me thrive. It takes a village to raise a queen, and this song is a dedication to them.”
The music video directed by Joe Wood showcases Le Fil performing in a series of stunning fashion looks. The clip starts with Le Fil energetically dancing alone in a futuristic gold outfit. As the song progresses, the family grows with dancers joining one by one, culminating in a special celebration featuring Le Fil’s collaborators, friends and drag queens.
“I really wanted to pay homage to all the people who have been a part of my journey so far – my musicians, photographers, friends – all the people behind the scenes who have been so patient, generous and supportive and put up with me missing their messages while I was prepping for Drag Race! Not one of the queens on our show could do it without the support of so many people – people that you don’t get to see. I wouldn’t be where I am without them, so it was fab to be able to feature so many of their lovely faces in this video. It’s a triumphant celebration!”
The British-Chinese pop artist is no stranger to writing addictive pop hits. Having already released a number of singles, Le Fil entered the drag competition as a pop artist. He excelled in the girl band challenge, gaining a win for their Queens Of The Bone Age group and left viewers gagging for more with their single Come Alive.
