In an exhilarating break from tradition, Philipp Dorner unveiled his FW26 Collection in a hidden gem of East London, the Parasol. This enchanting showcase invites us into a conceptual journey through vivid gothic landscapes, where self-identity and subculture evolve amidst the shadows of our personal narratives.
The collection features nineteen captivating looks that pay homage to Dorner’s southern German heritage, merging inspiration from the hauntingly atmospheric landscapes of the Black Forest with the contemporary pulse of fashion. Each garment intricately weaves the stories of traditional costumes, raw nature, and vernacular architecture, reinterpreting them through a lens of growth and nostalgia. This evocative blend encapsulates the essence of the collection’s poignant statement, “The girl who you thought, is not what I am.”

Dorner, once challenged for expressing his femininity within the gothic realm, has transformed perceived vulnerability into a powerful act of self-liberation. His latest pieces emerge as a dialogue between softness and severity, translating personal history into contemporary forms while seamlessly stitching together cultural references through sophisticated tailoring.
Elevating functional archetypes into bespoke masterpieces, Dorner’s choice of high-end textiles and meticulous craftsmanship emphasises longevity and sustainability. Remarkably, the designer is dedicated to reimagining responsible alternatives, having ingeniously reengineered fur through hand-stitched cords, maintaining its visual richness without ethical compromise. His signature latex manifests as fringes, cleverly echoing the essence of ‘fur cords.’ Furthermore, striking images of the Black Forest, printed with liquid rubber on wool and latex, breathe life into this narrative.

The exploration of foil bonding recalls the elegant structures of churches and domestic walls, while lace textiles evoke childhood memories of German tablecloths, weaving a personal touch into each piece. This season’s silhouettes embrace a spectrum from sharply tailored to deliberately boxy, symbolising the evolution and shedding of past identities. A mesmerising nocturnal palette, plunging into blacks, charcoals, and layered greys, is punctuated by vibrant pinks, purples, and copper, playfully subverting traditional themes tied to Dorner’s youthful experiences.
Ultimately, this collection is a profound declaration of autonomy, an unapologetic celebration of individuality rooted in the collision of place, memory, and the introspective process of outgrowing the inherited selves. Special thanks are extended to Dr Martens and the backstage team for their invaluable contribution to this remarkable showcase.
Diving deep into a world where the past intricately shapes the present, Philipp Dorner’s FW26 Collection invites us all to embrace our shadows and emerge authentic, powerful, and profoundly alive.
