The editorial explores the tension between purity and desire by reinterpreting the central conflict of Prudenci Bertrana’s Josafat, a seminal work of Catalan Modernism, through a lens of tormented interiority. Here, the struggle between instinct and repression is visually translated into a form of social control exerted upon the surface of the body.
Bodies, initially whole and composed, deform through the use of matter, makeup, and physical distortion, revealing a restless and untameable animal instinct. In this process, beauty ceases to be an abstract ideal and becomes body, friction, and pure impulse.
