Save the date for December 12 to 15 at 19:30 at the Berliner Ringtheater for FLÓBÉR, an impassioned activist performance that deftly navigates the intricate interplay between family and nation-states, particularly in the context of dictatorial and colonial practices.
In this groundbreaking interdisciplinary work, renowned artists Ren Mauney and Telmo Branco weave together threads of autobiographical theatre, contemporary dance, immersive sound design, and illuminating documentary film. Through their performance, they delve into profound themes of colonial love and internalized oppression, poignantly asking:
- When do we become our own oppressors?
- When do we become the oppressors of others?
FLÓBÉR focuses on the unique perspectives of two white, queer nonbinary individuals—one Portuguese and one US American—recounting their experiences in Portugal. This intercontinental dialogue invites the audience to reflect upon how the family unit is co-opted by national narratives, framed within distinct cultural contexts.
