Gigi by David-Simon Dayan

This series poses the idea of life as a performance, a recurring theme in Dayan’s work. David-Simon Dayan explores the process of transformation in turning his lens on drag performer, Gigi Goode, presented here, barefaced and hardly dressed, looking directly to the camera, and rebelliously applying makeup. By using black and white, the work creates an intimate, timeless feel, in stark contrast to the vibrant world of drag. In documenting Goode in various stages of their process, allowing the viewer access behind the veil, Dayan studies the delicate and performative nature of gender.
