Stay curious with grentperez: Musings on love, life and nostalgia

Internet boy on the block, grentperez, has been crafting notable DIY pop love-ballads since 2021, with no qualms about being unapologetically himself. It’s no wonder this 21 year old from Australia is making international waves, having spent over half the year touring North America and Europe, with Asia tour dates on the horizon.

Sydney-born Filipino singer, Grant Perez, has an infectious light that can’t be ignored. With fans lining up as early as 7am to see him play, it comes as no surprise Rex Orange County took him on tour last year. So, what is it about this self-proclaimed love-crooner that people can’t get enough of? We sat down with him to get the inside scoop on his plans for 2024, and latest EP.

“My When We Were Younger EP is about the realization of growing up. As stereotypical or cheesy as it is, our 20’s are a very anxiety-inducing time when you’re figuring things out. Outside of school, there’s no plan. No one tells you how things actually are. For me, the EP is a recollection of memories before I move on to pursue my career.”

Grant’s reputation as an old soul supersedes him. He’s humble, well-articulated, and has a curiosity he says he never wants to lose. His “We Were Younger” EP is a seven song ode to nostalgia: he wanted the EP to fuse vintage sounds like bossa nova, Philadelphia soul, the strings of golden-era Hollywood; and general vibe of 90s romcoms.

The next phase for grentperez? More experimentation. He says he’s got a few songs archived to release, and after that wants to make a leap. Stay tuned for new music.

“I just gotta believe, be myself, and hope people catch on.”
