Press Play: LIAS – Who I Was

Berlin-based singer-songwriter LIAS unveiled his latest single “Who I Was” on April 26th, weaving the narrative threads of his artistic evolution. This new release follows his February single “My Funeral,” setting the stage for his upcoming second EP slated for release later this year.

“Who I Was” embarks on a poignant exploration of LIAS’s deepest fears as he traverses the terrain between reconciling his past and sculpting his future. It poses profound inquiries into the essence of identity: Who am I, truly? And what parts of myself must I allow to perish to uncover this truth? Courageously addressing questions often consigned to the shadowy recesses of the subconscious, LIAS discovers renewed strength and liberates himself in the process.

Following a sold-out acoustic tour across Germany, LIAS returned to the studio in 2023, revitalized by the recurring magic of live performances and their unique ability to bridge human connections. With a clear creative vision, he sought to steep his new compositions deeper within the collaborative soundscape of live musicianship. For the first time, LIAS teamed up with a studio-live band, recording together at the prestigious Clouds Hill Studios in Hamburg. Drawing influences from the likes of Radiohead, The 1975, Phoebe Bridgers, and even classical maestros like Frédéric Chopin, his forthcoming EP promises to delve into the uplifting and hopeful dimensions of melancholy in his transformative quest for authenticity. “Who I Was” emerges as the poignant second single from this eagerly anticipated EP.
