Leeds electro-pop duo Lucky Iris team up with London artist Lynks to share the visual accompaniment for their joint single, “lalalalala.” Released via Launchpad+ and EMI North, the new video captures a high-intensity, playful collision between two of electro-pop’s most adventurous acts.
Sparked by a chance meeting backstage at Leeds venue Belgrave Music Hall, songwriter-producer duo Maeve and Jasper joined forces with Lynks at Metropolis Studios in London. The resulting track balances disarming vocals against crunchy, hard-hitting production, tackling the frantic lengths of early infatuation through lyrics that playfully cycle through every mode of communication, from late-night text messages to carrier pigeons.
Speaking on the collaboration, Maeve explains, “Music that makes me move is my favourite type of music. I’ve never felt that more than at a Lynks show! So when we got in the studio together it was like magic. We started playing around with all of these sounds and made this crunchy soundscape which I think really brings together the worlds of Lucky Iris and Lynks… brings them together or crashes them into each other? It’s playful and fun but also sexy and raw.”
Lynks adds, “When we got into the studio and Maeve was coming up with her verse, the contrast of the super needy lyrics with her mega cute voice made me think about early-days relationships when you’re tryna walk the tightrope of not seeming too desperate even though you’re falling head over heels for someone and you’d do literally anything just to get them to just fuCKING TALK TO YOU. So I tried to capture that crazy feeling in my verse.”
Following a standout period that saw the Leeds pair named in the NME 100, curate a guest mix for BBC 6 Music’s New Music Fix, and land acclaim across Clash, Rolling Stone UK, and DIY, “lalalalala” signals an explosive next step for Lucky Iris. Fresh off supporting acts like Dorian Electra and Hannah Diamond, the duo showcase the new track live at EMI North’s Mercury Prize fringe showcase before heading to Left of the Dial festival in Rotterdam.
