Hope for Her Future: A compilation for girls’ education in Afghanistan

Hope for Her Future is a special Underground Institute compilation for Girls in Afghanistan, in collaboration with the Afghan Women’s Association. The compilation’s aim is to collect funds and raise awareness for the current situation of girls in Afghanistan – with the new restrictions on education set by the Taliban, currently schools are only open for female students up to the 6th grade. The compilation features Gudrun Gut, Xiu Xiu, Ka Baird, Ana da Silva, Burka Band*, Michelle Gurevich, Julia Kent, Gloria de Oliveira, Felix Kubin, No Bra and many others. It was curated by UI founder Mary Ocher, who shares a new sound piece in it (with Audrey Chen).

*Burka Band was a special project of three women from Kabul (who wish to remain anonymous, due to the risks involved) – offered by their German co-producer, Kurt Dahlke aka Pyrolator, of Ata Tak Records. Their first single was originally released on Gudrun Gut’s Monika Enterprises in 2002.

The Afghan Women’s Association (based in Hamburg) focuses on delivering education and access to knowledge in creative ways – via homeschooling, online-teaching, learning groups, radio sessions etc… as well as helping girls get scholarships for higher education elsewhere.
