Hotly-tipped UK producers Jacana People launch into 2023 with heady new single ‘Ladybird’

After an incredible 2022, UK duo Jacana People begin the year on a high with their inclusion in Mixmag’s top artists to check out in 2023 and return with their new single Ladybird, co-written with fellow rising producer Kiimi.

Hot on the heels of 2022’s ‘Awara’ and ‘Isola’ and a string of electrifying live shows supporting George FitzGerald, Yunè Pinku, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (T.E.E.D) to name a few, making them favourites of everyone from R1’s Jaguar and Jack Saunders to R6 icons Mary Anne Hobbs and Steve Lamacq, ‘Ladybird’ opens 2023 as Jacana People’s clubbiest sound yet.

With minimal house leanings, driving percussive elements, trippy pads and stirring vocal stabs, ‘Ladybird’ is a vibrant dance-floor-ready addition to the Jacana catalogue. A hit with crowds at live shows, the track looks set to become a club and radio favourite, mirroring the success of its predecessors which have received over 9 million streams across DSPs so far.

‘Ladybird’’s heady dance-floor feel displays another side to the rising duo’s increasingly well-acknowledged talents, going beyond the chill euphoria of their previous work and setting the tone for an exciting 2023 where all eyes are on them.

On the track Jacana People say:

‘’Ladybird’ is a really exciting moment for us. It’s probably the clubbiest thing we’ve released and we love that we’re starting the new year with a burst of energy. ‘Ladybird’ was written by our good friend and super-talented producer, Kiimi, who really helped define the direction of the track. During the session, we all just felt this intensity and vibrancy from the stripped-back drums and vocal chops and we knew that there was something in that minimal feel. We’ve been playing ‘Ladybird’ as part of our live set on tour last year and that was when the track came to life for us – the energy really seemed to connect with people. We are buzzing to hear it out in the world and hopefully at some clubs!’

Last year saw the emergence of their live show, with a string of festival dates, high-profile support slots, and shows alongside the likes of George FitzGerald, Porij, Yunè Punku, Maria Chiara Argiró, O’Flynn, Surya Sen and Model Man, hinting at the promise of future performances to come. In a relatively short amount of time, what began as a project between two friends during lockdown has evolved into an outlet for the pair’s sonic ambition that shows no signs of abating, as the duo cut their teeth at some of the UK’s most respected venues and continue to build on their already impressive catalogue of releases.
