A KALTBLUT exclusive. JAILAU. Qazaq välsi is a fashion editorial created for Törteu, a creative collective of four Kazakhstani designers working with avant-garde fashion. Created during the JAILAU. Qazaq välsi fashion show at the Tselinny Centre of Contemporary Culture in Almaty, the editorial brings together four distinct collections exploring themes of history, mythology and collective memory through contemporary Kazakh fashion.
The submission includes one main video presenting the project as a whole and four additional designer-focused films.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Mikhail Gavrysh is a film director and visual artist based in Almaty, Kazakhstan. His practice is centred on developing visual concepts that transform ideas into images. Rather than adhering to a single subject or aesthetic, he approaches each project as an opportunity to create a new visual world and tell a story through imagery.
ABOUT THE DESIGNERS
Törteu is an interdisciplinary collective of four Kazakhstani designers — Assem Sapargali, Abzal Seidin, Almas Kerimbek (Qanaker) and Rassul Sotsial — whose practices combine avant-garde fashion, performance and contemporary visual culture.
Working independently while collaborating as a collective, they use fashion as a medium for artistic research, exploring themes of history, mythology, identity and social change through distinct visual languages.
For JAILAU. Qazaq välsi, each designer developed an individual collection based on a different concept. Together, these four collections form a single performative narrative presented through the language of contemporary Kazakh fashion.
