From the arcane abysses of Rodrigo Camino Lorenzini’s yet-to-be-published manuscript, “Fwyrg” (pronounced Fee-org), a three-dimensional enigma emerges, named ‘La Eslovena’. She, a spectral entity woven from esoteric ideologies and mythical tapestries, advances as a being of multifaceted attraction.

On the threshold of time, between the folds of an uncertain past and present, appears the animal/man/woman who speaks to us about, and struggles with, the things we all go through every day, such as desire, infatuation and the fluidity of identity.

In an ancient, dark and magical world, the threads of ancestral memories weave together to tell a story of discovery, adaptation and transformation. From the awakening of a passionate love to the confrontation with the deepest darkness of the soul. The struggle with demons and the authentic ambivalence that occurs when looking at oneself in a reflection and not knowing whether to be or not to be, or how, or when to be.

In her many semblances, she embodies a daring heroine, unyielding in the face of darkness, unafraid to face her fears; a figure not quite human, with a face of ethereal marble and eyebrows etched in enigmatic zigzags. Her first approach, in mid-2023, caressed our senses with a collection of three songs, unleashed like spells from a grimoire.

In her first single ‘El Cabrón’, La Eslovena opens her heart and reveals her modus operandi when it comes to dealing with the bastards lurking around the corners. On one hand, she puts her vulnerability on the table, letting us glimpse that she has been hurt, but that vulnerability is her greatest superpower and what strengthens this latex-clad neohada. She leaves behind the person who hurt her, but she does so by taking his testicles as a souvenir. A reminder that the person doesn’t deserve her and that he’ll never get her again. A chant that ends in a techno beat, a ritualistic feast essential for detachment. She leaves dancing, riding towards the skies evoked by the lyrics of this first track.
La Eslovena explores her sexuality, she is an unabashed entity – for the good and the less good too – and in her second single, ‘Ay va’, she set us on fire with a mischievous hip-swinging sparkle. The original ‘Ay Bá, Ay Bá’ is from the zarzuela ‘La Corte del Faraón’, which was censored for its explicit content during the Franco regime.

Her third song, a dive into currents of synths, whistles and dreamy vocals, featuring artist Cara Hart’s, ‘La Ballena’ is a tribute to Spanish band Faneka’s ‘Like an Ocean When a Whale, Pt 2’.

Embracing diverse artistic disciplines – music, writing, performance – La Eslovena recently premiered her inaugural performance, `The Garden of The White Fairies’ in November as a post-opening for the exhibition ‘Masculin, Femenin’ by Arniches 26 gallery at The Social Hub in Madrid.
Her second performance was in December at London’s avant-garde art space The Horse Hospital.

La Eslovena is a creation that goes beyond the performative, it is quasi-didactic, as it teaches us to be braver. It is irreverent but highly sophisticated. It belongs to the night and dragqueenism, but also Sunday family meals. And during this 2024, we await the promise of her new works: performances, singles and new creative works that will emerge during the year. She is a being who is struggling to be who she is with all her complexities and not be reduced to a prejudiced corner. She wants to be ethereal.
