LEATHER BOYS PART II: VELASQUEZ A/W21

Central Saint Martin’s graduate Mateo Velasquez released his first runway show of his namesake brand ‘Velasquez’ during MBMFW AW21. Originally from Colombia, Velasquez lived in Madrid and London, taking elements from this hybrid upbringing and his own queer experiences to explore contemporary takes on Menswear, reflecting on social convention and masculinity by looking at current affairs and social issues.

Entitled Leather Boys Pt II, the AW21 collection editorial is a collaboration showcasing Mateo’s own work and everyone he worked with, including Jewellery by Luke V Smith, Bags by Manon Planche, Hats by Benjamin Paul and New Rock Shoes.

“Leather has always had this connection to sex and sexuality, however, it means much more than that, an umbrella that stands for family, safety, community and being yourself, a social element that provides you with a sense of belonging.”
