Mixtape: Julia Louise Knifefist

Joining our mixtape series is the distinctive Julia Louise Knifefist. The project launched with their move from Philadelphia to Dublin five years ago, introducing a character renowned for fusing experimental noise, gabber, breakcore, and the rhythms of dance music, all while ensuring a captivating live performance.

Julia Louise Knifefist’s roots span the DIY scenes of Philadelphia and Dublin, drawing inspiration from the abrasive textures of harsh noise and the intensity of performers such as Death Grips—a noted influence—which she refines into more accessible forms of expression.

As a leading figure in the collective Bitten Twice, Julia has carved out a vital space for avant-garde electronic music in Ireland. She frequently collaborates with Dublin’s burgeoning artistic community, including names like Rory Sweeney and E The Artist, further solidifying their presence with regular stage collaborations.

Julia’s upcoming EP, “Valley,” opens with ‘Venom’, a track that melds the dissonant rhythms of breakcore with punk and hardcore styles amidst dominating basslines, furthering the DIY ethos embodied by counterparts such as JPEGMafia and Paris Texas.

The tracks ‘Black Magic’ and ‘What Then’ highlight an experimental take on gabber, interspacing relentless beats with haunting melodies, threatening to explode into a frenetic blaze. The ethereal journey of ‘Hands To Heal’ transports listeners via a trance-like odyssey, blending cloud-rap elements and cutting-edge stylings akin to Yung Lean and Varg2TM, culminating in an unparalleled signature sound.
