Mixtape: kiskadee

London-based producer and composer kisakdee joins our mix series after the release of his new Believe In Love EP: a beautiful, poignant and euphoric collection of electronic cuts that sets him on the road to global recognition. kiskadee is the moniker of Jack Chown, a producer and composer based in London who has previously collaborated with artists such as Benjamin Francis Leftwich and Tycho Jones, and worked as an engineer for the likes of Jessie Ware, M.I.A and HAELOS. As kiskadee he produces deeply affecting electronic music, capturing sounds from his surroundings and transforming them into bittersweet but ultimately uplifting soundscapes that reflect his own experiences in a highly relatable way.

Thanks so much to Kaltblut for asking me to do this mix! I initially started the kiskadee project during lockdown in 2020, getting friends + family to send in voice-notes which I then flipped into ambient soundscapes and bittwersweet beats. As the world has opened up again, I’ve been blending these ambient and melodic themes with more club-focused electronica which is at the core of this mix, peppered with a few recent releases of my own! I hope you enjoy :)

“With this EP, I’m really trying to blend those ambient and cinematic influences with more club-focused electronica which is a world I’ve fallen in love with in recent years. As we’ve been allowed to gather and dance again, it’s been beautiful to see these song received by audiences in a live setting and I’m really looking forward to more of that in the year ahead!”

kisakdee’s first singles landed in 2021, with perhaps his most celebrated track to date, Cali Roll, arriving in early 2022. Described as “a twinkling piece of sun-kissed electronica” by Clash Magazine, kiskadee creates emotive, uplifting dance music comparable to the likes of Bonobo, Floating Points and Daphni.
