Next up in our mixtape series is Alice Whittington, known as DJ Norsicaa, the long-time general manager and DJ at Soundway Records. Norsicaa’s diverse musical journey began with her upbringing in a musical environment. Although she is skilled in playing several instruments, she ultimately discovered that DJing provided a satisfying avenue for her extensive tastes—a passion that was further nurtured during her time at Sounds of the Universe, a record store in Soho.
Until 2023, she hosted a popular primetime slot on Soho Radio, as well as programming for Worldwide FM. Norsicaa has contributed numerous mixes to platforms such as My Analog Journal, Phonica Records, HHV Records, and The Vinyl Factory, and she graced the Boiler Room stage with a live performance in 2019. Until November of this year, she also held the position of general manager at the esteemed independent record label, Soundway Records.
“I recently released my own compilation ‘Ayo Ke Disco’ on Soundway in October this year, featuring disco, pop and synth from 70s and 80s South-East Asia. However my taste goes much further than that, and in this mix for KALTBLUT, I progress into the 90s and beyond, with an exploration of electronic music from the Asian continent. From Cantonese Italo-Disco to Hindustani breakbeat, Thai proto-house, ‘chutney’ music, Japanese-Korean techno and more.”
