Mixtape: SYREETA

HE.SHE.THEY resident SYREETA joins our mixtape series! SYREETA is an artist who’s built a career on authenticity, inclusivity and fearlessness. Honing her craft through the East London scene and now resident at HE.SHE.THEY and ANTS, she has a captivating gift for reading and adapting to the energy of a crowd, drawing on chunky basslines and melodic grooves from a palette of house and techno.

Stand out mixes for Radio 1, 1XTRA, HÖR, Rinse, 6Music and more, as well as being a staple at the world’s best parties and festivals including Circo Loco, Glastonbury,  Reading, Kappa Futur, Secret Garden Party, Tomorrowland, Music On, Paradise, Cocorico, fabric, and Creamfields, has cemented her as someone who is making serious moves as she continues her measured and impressive rise to dance music royalty. Indeed, SYREETA made her USA debut at Coachella this year!

SYREETA’s music sets can dance between house and techno to garage and beyond, and that versatility led her to share the DJ Booth with a veritable who’s who of dance music’s finest including Carl Cox, Marco Carola, Loco Dice, Marcel Dettman, Ben Klock, Midland, Eric Prydz, Black Coffee, Jamie Jones, The Blessed Madonna, Mall Grab and Maya Jane Coles.

I always look forward to playing for HE.SHE.THEY., it’s super fun and I get to reunite with the family. I’ve chosen some of my favourite tracks from the label (including one of mine) and the vibe you would expect to hear me play. A standout moment for me was HE.SHE.THEY. at Snowbombing this year, where I closed the night at Brück’n Stadl. The vibe was insane, I dropped Missy and Skrillex – Ratata and it just got crazy, and topped it off with the last track Sonique – ‘I t Feels So Good ’, Moments I’ll never forget

HE.SHE.THEY. are currently amid their global tour to celebrate the brand’s 5th anniversary. They’ve already toured across the US, including dates in New York, Miami, San Francisco, as well as EU dates in Barcelona, London and Berlin. As part of the celebrations, they announced an 8 – week residency at Ibiza mega club Amnesia, taking up the coveted Friday night slot for their biggest season yet. Across the year the label has released music from Sister Bliss (Faithless), and HE.SHEY.THEY. resident SYREETA, who just put out her debut EP, ‘RENNI BES’.

HE.SHE.THEY. threw their first party in 2018 at London’s infamous Ministry Of So und, Maya Jane Coles, Ellen Alien and Satoshi Tomii headlined the main room alongside Warboy and Wax Wings. The event’s ethos was and still I, centred around the ethos “a place without prejudice; where people can be people. To create a utopia where people feel they belong whilst expressing their utmost individuality. Where they can spread their creative wings and relinquish the shackles imposed by society, irrespective of age, race, sex, gender, ability, religion, background or their sexual preference.”

HE.SHE.THEY founders Steven & Sophia

Over the past 5 – years they have received global recognition for the events and forward – thinking mindset, successfully taking the ethos to clubs and festivals in over 40 cities across the world. Initially, starting out as artist managers (they still are), St even and Sophia have many success stories; bringing Maya Jane Coles to global stardom, and the recent emergence of SYREETA. The inclusive events series, label and fashion brand, was initially born from Steven and Sophia’s observation of lack of nights th at reflected the diversity and representation that are historically at the heart of house, disco, and techno. The aim of HST was to redress this balance and bring parity back to the scene, irrespective of age, size, race, sex, gender, ability, religion, or sexual preference.

As well as inclusive booking, behind the scenes, HST work with club promoters to address gender imbalance through the hiring of womxn, people of colour, and queer people, with every date they play. However, now that they are also host ing stage takeovers at some of the world’s biggest electronic festivals including Kappa Futur, Lost Village and Secret Garden Party, they are able to address this issue on a much wider scale. The aim is to continue going, and make sure their message of inc lusivity can spread much further than just the club. As a label, HE.SHE.THEY. has released music from the likes of Anja Schneider, Rebekah, Cakes Da Killa, Eris Drew and Maya Jane Coles.
