Mixtape: Vich Mind

Vich Mind is the next DJ and artist to join our mixtape series! Originally from Berlin but now based in Vienna, Vich Mind has found a warm and welcoming creative exchange in the city’s small yet cozy scene. As Vienna undergoes a transformation, Vich Mind has had the unique opportunity to contribute to this reshaping. One of the ways they have contributed is through their involvement with communities like Fette Feten, which has become a core element in the new generation of queer partying. This community is at the forefront of creating safer spaces, and Vich Mind is proud to be a part of it. They have also performed at various events such as Unsafe+Sounds Festival, Grelle Forelle, Exil, Struma+Iodine, and the Vienna Pride celebration this year.

Additionally, Vich Mind hosts the e777 mix series on SoundCloud, providing a platform for a diverse range of artists to showcase their fringe and experimental hard dance music. Excitingly, they have a groundbreaking party concept in the works for 2024.

Vich Mind’s journey into electronic music began with fashion show playlists and renowned PC Music mixtapes. Spending countless hours at home listening and exploring various subcultures, their understanding and vision of listening experiences grew, even before delving into their hometown’s techno traditions. Immersed in the club scene, Vich Mind developed a profound appreciation for the psychedelic branches of Techno, Trance, leftfield club music, as well as innovative Ambient and Hardcore genres.

This amalgamation of influences has shaped Vich Mind’s unique and unapologetically eclectic style. They fearlessly combine extreme elements from different genres within the realm of electronica. By repurposing and recontextualizing these elements, Vich Mind creates a mesmerizing and intuitive language that tells stories beyond the boundaries of genres. Get ready to embark on a sonic journey unlike any other!

This mix is my vision of Techno for the year 2024 – bold, dynamic and introspective. I took on a much slower pace than usual because that reflects my current perspective, after all the post-pandemic buzz and supercharged (and by now once more highly commercialised) emotion I feel like there is a need for a more subtle reflection in music. This new approach is no less bold and future-oriented, but for me personally the club reopening meant an insane burst of euphoria that needed expression musically; a potential energy that I have exhausted, in a good way, so it’s time to move on. I have also incorporated tracks from some masters like Clark or Aphex Twin which I have been admiring for years but never really worked with my sound, so I want to challenge myself to work evermore experimental with rhythm and design going forward.

“One of my core beliefs is that meanings are primarily created through the listeners in their experience of the presented musical landscapes, less than through the innate meaning the artist bestows on it. Be that the crowd in a club setting with their diverse mindsets and plans for the night or someone with in-ears on their phone after a breakup, on their way to work, or on a mushroom trip. I want my music to reflect that way of thinking and be approachable as well as challenging. Im offering unique trips to sublimate experience, not dictate it, and I am always curious to hear what other people experience through what I play. I use music to channel emotion, to let my spirit flow where my mind will sometimes not let it, it can be a healing culprit to bypass all learned patterns of how we are supposed to deal with ourselves and the world. Sometimes best you can do is feel.

Right now I am working on translating that into production which I hope will soon bear fruits, some first releases for next year are already in the works, which I am very excited about.”
