Egor Antoshchenko, known as Yak 40, shares his KALTBLUT mixtape following the release of his debut album, Travelogue. This deeply personal record reflects two years of exploration across Asia, capturing the emotional essence and diverse influences that have shaped his sound. With roots in the music of legends like Aphex Twin, The Orb, and Four Tet, Yak 40’s production style seamlessly blends genres. His tracks oscillate between meditative ambiences and infectious rhythms, echoing the profound connections he’s formed during his travels.
The album’s diverse sonic palette includes everything from broken beats to entrancing techno, each track serving as a vivid vignette of his adventures. Flowing like a journey, it oscillates between frenetic energy and serene calm, embodying Yak 40’s wanderlust and the landscapes that influence him. In his own words, Yak 40 states, “Travelogue is dedicated to all the nomads and free spirits. Each track is a postcard from my travels, a snapshot of the cultures I’ve encountered.”
On the mix he shares, “As eclectic as my debut album Travelogue is, this mix lifts off with some classic Asian-flavored trip-hop tracks that have shaped my musical journey, and then flows into the work of incredible artists I’ve discovered more recently — particularly the fantastic Italian producer Alicon and the inspiring South Korean duo Salamanda. And of course, I couldn’t resist including a track from an awesome singer and my Berlin buddy Dan Bodan — may his days be long and fulfilling. Peace to all, that’s all we need.”
