‘Restart’ is the latest from Londoner Szjerdene and is a taster of her upcoming EP ‘Trace’. With her distinctively rich vocals, Szjerdene first hit the scene back in 2012 with her self-released EP ‘Patchwork’. It wasn’t long before her live performances captured the attention of Simon Green, alias Bonobo, resulting in a collaboration on his fifth studio album ‘The North Borders’. After an extensive world tour, a second EP featuring three singles co-written and produced by Lapalux, and an 18-month tour with Bonobo for his Grammy-nominated sixth studio album ‘Migration’, Szjerdene is ready to share her latest body of work. ‘Restart’ marks the beginning of a new journey for the now Amsterdam-based artist, and is one of five original tracks taken from the solo EP ‘Trace’. The release will be accompanied by unique visuals with an unapologetically raw and analogue aesthetic. Something which fans of TOKiMONSTA, Romare and Mount Kimbie can look forward to.
Szjerdene’s voice is both earthly in its soul and celestial in its purity: soothingly familiar, and yet unmistakably distinct. The disparate elements distilled into an arresting statement of cohesive sonic intent. After all, some people are born to sing. Growing up in East London, Szjerdene spent her formative years quietly honing her take on the craft, developing a unique vocal style that owes as much to her natural talent as to her unwavering single-mindedness.
Trace is the audio construction of a narrative of love. A narrative we’re each guilty of and all too familiar with.
Now residing along the scenic canals of Amsterdam, Szjerdene continues to turn heads around the globe, winning hearts and capturing minds with her artfully crafted songs and mesmeric, ethereal vocals. The next chapter of Szjerdene’s story is unfolding and you can bet on it being as enchanting as her both her stage presence and voice.
