The international project “Music of Defiance” – the action of solidarity of the musicians of the world with Ukraine” is beginning on the 24th of February 2023, the day of a year of Russia’s military invasion of sovereign Ukraine. The participants of the action will perform Ukrainian music in a format of an offline/online concert, a flash mob, a street performance, a music video or a performance.
The 24th of February 2022 will forever go down in world history as the date of the beginning of Russia’s military invasion of sovereign Ukraine – as the date of the beginning of a large-scale terrorist act against 40 million Ukrainian citizens in the centre of Europe.
Ukraine and Ukrainians have been fighting against the military aggression of Putin’s regime for a year. The informational and cultural front, which is deployed in Ukraine and in other countries of the world, is one of the most significant.
The project “Music of Defiance – the international action of solidarity of the musicians of the world with Ukraine”, which will begin on the 24th of February, is initiated by the leading figures of the music industry with the aim to strengthen our presence in the world cultural space and to draw the attention of the world community to the deeper understanding of the Ukrainian issue and Ukrainian resistance.
The mission of the project is to show and reveal the character of Unbreakable Ukrainian People – the NATION, through Ukrainian music and at an irrational level to convey the Values for which we are fighting for our common Victory!
The format of the project – performances of music collectives or musicians from all around the world with Ukrainian music in a format of an offline/online concert, a flash mob, a street performance, a music video, performance.
Participants who would like to join would be able to fill out a form and find the repertoire and the scores for performing Ukrainian music on the website musicofdefiance.com.ua. The site will display the geography of the participants who will be joining the project.
The first events within the project:
- Concert “In Memory of the Invincible” at the Lviv National Opera on the 22 th of February;
- Concert-reflection of the National House of Music ” If war begins tomorrow …” at the National Philharmonic of Ukraine on the 23th of February;
- Concert of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine on the 24th of February;
- Charity concert of the National Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments of Ukraine “Music of Defiance” on the 24th of February at the Premier Palace Hotel Kyiv.
The initiative was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Ukrainian Cultural Fund and Ukrainian Institute.
