Eight designers, eight very different wardrobes. Backstage, though, they shared one thing: these are clothes you want to get closer to. Eight emerging designers piled on texture, drama, and all things avant-garde for SS27 in the Ones To Watch: Edition 02 show for Fashion Scout.
ACIDSIIIA went gloriously wild with clouds of hand-worked wool and sculptural deadstock. GaMi Lew twisted and draped fabric into pieces that looked different from every angle. Label Astha Garg played with sheer layers, exaggerated shapes and clothes that seemed to float around the body, while Sanjana Ghosh made softness feel strange, clever and slightly surreal.
Elsewhere, Serina Lee turned Chinese ink painting into fashion, with fluid forms and delicate details in extreme shapes. Shuwen Song / SONGSONG chose chaos of the romantic kind: ribbons, red cords, exposed skin and fragile tulle tangled together.
StyledbyZK brought colour to the party, remixing Nigerian Aso-oke and Adire with bold pattern and attitude. And Tyler Von Greenston took British tailoring apart and put it back together again, using deadstock, reclaimed fabrics and offcuts. Plus one hell of a latex power suit/skirt combo.
The mood backstage? Pleats flying. Studs flashing. Wool everywhere. A veil here, an enormous hat there. Eight fresh voices, plenty of big ideas, and not a boring hemline in sight.
