OUR SCENE: An Archive of Bristol’s Queer Nightlife Rebirth is a collaborative project between CONQUEER and Bristol Pride, showcasing significant images, memorable short stories, and reflections from promoters and collectives that re-emerged post-lockdown in Bristol. The book will feature compelling narratives and visual art, along with highlights from photographers documenting this vibrant scene. Additionally, OUR SCENE will tell the tales of the promoters who laid the groundwork for the queer nightlife community prior to the lockdown, reflecting on its rich history in Bristol.
With contributions from over 30 promoters and event series, this book provides a platform for their diverse stories and images. It serves as a unique opportunity to create an archive that honours and celebrates the collective experiences of the queer community, preserving everything from photography and event posters to handwritten letters and illustrations that represent the creativity blossoming when the sun sets and venues come alive.

In 2024, CONQUEER was awarded a grant from Bristol Pride’s Community Fund to cover the costs of printing the first edition, commissioning graphic designer Willem Fox, and securing a venue deposit. To celebrate this project, CONQUEER will host a book launch event featuring performances by local queer DJs, including the confirmed act, PeoplelikeusDJ. This event is set to take place at the Jamaica Street Studios, which is part of the official Bristol Pride festival program.
Anyone who has pre-ordered a copy of OUR SCENE via Headfirst will have the chance to attend the launch and collect their first edition copy upon entry. Those who did not pre-order will still have an opportunity to enjoy the event and purchase a copy.

CONQUEER was founded in 2021 by Welsh-born Daniel Camargo-Grosso as a response to the dwindling alternative queer art and music scene in Bristol following the pandemic lockdowns. With a focus on transgressive programming, CONQUEER has established itself as a beacon of gothic opulence and has played a key role in revitalizing Bristol’s club kid scene. The event series has expanded to include members Beau Palmer (Producer) and George Avill (Guest Producer).
Over the past four years and following 10 successful events, CONQUEER’s mission has remained steadfast: to curate independent experimental club nights, dance music, live performances, and visual art for the Bristol community. The organization prioritizes inclusivity, diversity, and the creation of safer spaces for queer artists, enabling them to explore their potential and express themselves creatively, regardless of their backgrounds or experiences.
Daniel was inspired by “Blacklips: Her Life and Her Many, Many Deaths,” a photography book documenting New York’s queer scene in the 1990s by Anohni and Marti Wilkerson. This work left a lasting impression on the late-night subculture by blending vibrant drag, surreal horror, and profound tenderness.
