Hair & Makeup by Noéma Becker. “I am a young Berlin-based fashion designer currently studying at Kunsthochschule Weißensee. Growing up in the southern German countryside has strongly influenced my work. I am particularly interested in critically exploring the relationship between contemporary Germany and the concept of cultural identity, which is complex and deeply political. To me, shaping a better future requires a serious and honest engagement with the past.”
“In my collection, Palimpsest, I explore inheritance and reevaluation. A palimpsest is a writing surface that has been written over and over again. It can refer to something reused or altered that still bears visible traces of its earlier form. We inherit worldviews, concepts, behaviours, objects, and spaces. Inherited elements can feel comforting or oppressive, grotesque, precious, or obsolete. Like inherited clothes, they rarely fit perfectly. We rediscover and reexamine these things cyclically, generation after generation. Inspired by layers of aged wallpaper, vintage furniture, and home textiles, the collection translates these ideas into clothing. Using nostalgic shapes and colours, it reevaluates what has been passed down and reveals what still feels relevant today through a critical yet joyful play of dress-up.
