Renowned as a pop icon in her native Kurdistan, Bana unveils her vibrant new single, ‘Bag of Hearts’. Her latest English-language offering blends the musical essence of her roots with lush pop production, showcasing her unique fusion in its full glory.
A leading figure in her hometown’s burgeoning talent scene, Bana aims to uplift and proudly represent Kurdish women in the music industry. Her signature style—unapologetic lyrics set to dynamic beats—is designed to captivate instantly as she gears up to reveal her true artistry to the world.
‘Bag of Hearts’ narrates the tale of a heart-stealing trickster, pulsating with assertive energy, lively beats, and irresistible Kurdish-infused melodies that spotlight Bana’s exceptional vocal prowess. Reflecting on the track, Bana shares, “The song Bag of Hearts expresses the side of me that I have kept hidden for years. I have never sung with such passion in any of my songs before.”
At just 22, Bana reigns as the pop princess of Sulaymaniyah, the cultural heart of Kurdistan. Self-taught in English through the lyrics of Ariana Grande and One Direction, she entered the spotlight at 16 on the TV singing competition Kurd Idol, intending to be the sole artist performing in English. Her dual-language performances were an instant hit, launching her into the Kurdish music scene where she penned and released Kurdish music for five years, including her debut album Diway Salêk.
Seizing new opportunities, Bana relocated to London to record her first English-language singles. In her initial sessions, she composed 18 tracks (including ‘Bag of Hearts’), exploring genres like pop, house, and drum and bass.
With her upcoming single releases, Bana seamlessly intertwines elements of Kurdish music—complex melodies, traditional instruments, and robust beats—with a polished popstar veneer. Undeterred by potential controversies back home, Bana remains steadfast in her artistic vision.
Both her Kurdish debut album and her anticipated English tracks highlight Bana’s determination, positivity, and vocal talent. “I want to make a difference in my country and to be an example for young Kurdish girls,” she declares. “Whatever their dream is, I want to be an example. I exist and you can too.”
