House/Garage singer-songwriter Chikaya releases her brand new single, ‘The Lion’. Produced by Justina Bruce aka Likkle Jay and Simone V, the track incorporates elements of house, garage, pop, and R&B, all wrapped up in Chikaya’s distinctively sultry vocals and compelling lyricism. “This is a song all about confidence and loving yourself, being self-assured, secured, and powerful – just like a Lion. I encourage everybody to embrace their inner Lion!”, the Bristol-based artist says on the new release.
Speaking of the track, Chikaya says, “I was inspired and feeling empowered to write about how liberated a connection with the right person can make you feel. Wild, free, sexy, and alive. The lyric ‘You wake up the Lion Inside Of Me’ had been floating around on my notes for some time. I knew I wanted to use it as a hook but I wasn’t sure when, so I just left it as I knew eventually the time would come! I met Simone V one night in a Wetherspoons after we’d both attended a Nono gig, we hit it off immediately, we exchanged Instas. Simone 100% understood the vision of The Lion, and everything fell into place. We then teamed up with Grammy-nominated Music producer Justina Bryce aka Likkle Jay who finalised the track. It was all a super easy and fun process from start to finish. I want listeners to reminisce over times they felt like a bad bitch, and soak it in.”
From an early age, Chikaya had a deep affinity with electronic music and the way it elevated and transcended her. Since then, she has drawn from her eclectic music taste and her combined influences and thrives off the ability to experiment with the emotions and feelings she’s able to convey with her music. She combines slick production, garage beats, and empowering lyrics to form her distinctively upbeat sound. Already championed by BBC Introducing Bristol and BBC 1Xtra, 2023 shows no signs of slowing down for Chikaya.
