Press Play: Marie Noreger – ‘SLOOOWLY’

Sending woozy electronic ripples across the North Sea, Norway’s Marie Noreger makes music for the soul as she releases her single ‘SLOOOWLY’. Leaning on her innate artistic creativity, the output of ‘SLOOOWLY’ is a unique, experimental experience. Immediately drawn in by the mesmerise of Marie’s warped vocals, backdropped on an almost rewinding effect on production, the soundscape of the track brings to life the wordplay of its title with every degree of accuracy. This production is in fact a natural extension of Marie, with the single being her first ever self-produced track Effortlessly fusing together contemporary R&B and electronic music, Marie’s avant-garde sound combined with her poetic lyricism has undeniable cinematic potential.

Unfiltered & unconditional love. Something she has identified with for a long time- her shield. which is fading slowly while she spends more time with him. It’s a safe space. Accepting differences and seeing them as an opportunity instead. Where one is able to learn how to see beyond patterns. It’s an unbreakable bond which also awakens the trauma of being scared of loosing someone you love.

‘SLOOOWLY’ comes as the first instalment to Marie’s forthcoming EP ‘DDVS’ and lands as the first release since her EP ‘Gravity’ which released in spring last year. The project quickly gained the attentions of international tastemakers with its soulful tendencies and lyrical intricacy, tastemakers including Colors, Wonderland, The Line of Best Fit, Clash Magazine, and Lyrical Lemonade.

More recently, Marie has been nominated for a Norwegian Grammy (Spellemann) in the ‘R&B/Soul’ Category for the ‘Gravity’ EP. Previous, well-known winners of the prestigious awards establishment include Sigrid, Aurora, Astrid S, Cashmere Cat and Kygo.

Even though there are no other musicians in 24-year-old Marie Noreger’s family, she is not surprised she ended up as an artist and songwriter. Marie grew up in a creative family, her father being a photographer, and a house-dj in his younger days, her grandmother being a painter, and her aunt being a puppet maker. There was always music playing in the house, and her father taught her about obscure house-remixes from the 90s. She also attended concerts with her father from a very young age.

Speaking on her music, Marie explains; “I have a lot of emotions I haven’t processed properly, and they come out through the music. I write a lot about what it’s like to be human in the society we live in, and how it feels to be around other people.”

As a freelance photographer Marie has a distinct and artistic expression that is perceived throughout, from artwork to music videos, they are produced and organised by the artist herself and her co-art director Oswald Amoa.

Marie Noreger is the first artist services signing from The Orchard Nordics of Sony Records who will home the release of ‘SLOOOWLY’ and forthcoming EP ‘DDVS’
