Press Play: Merry Lamb Lamb – Better ft Miso Extra & aimei 媚

Merry Lamb Lamb, Miso Extra, and aimei 媚 celebrate the advent of the Year of the Dragon with their latest track ‘Better’. This piece is a direct product of a creative music workshop held by Platoon’s ‘She Runs The Board,’ joined by the networking community ‘she said.so’ and ESEA Music, representing the UK’s East and South East Asian music talent. The initiative throws the spotlight on the ESEA music scene and elevates the contributions of women producers, songwriters, and engineers within the music domain—a matter deeply resonant with the artists involved.

Merry Lamb Lamb says: “It’s interesting to have different mixtures of people coming together with very different personalities that bring something new to the table.” Merry also comments about the single: “A broken heart is like a ghost always following me around. It made me breathless and tired, but I will be better without you because my future self is waiting for me ahead in the line.”

The single ‘Better’ merges the sultry essence of RnB, the minimalist vibe of dubstep, and the depth of techno beats. It’s an eclectic blend of genres that flows effortlessly, thanks to the skilled synergy of Merry Lamb Lamb’s expert production, which complements the subtle yet powerful vocal performances by Miso Extra and aimei 媚.

Based out of Hong Kong and London, producer Merry Lamb Lamb, alongside Hong Kong native and Japanese British vocalist Miso Extra, and Chinese-British up-and-comer aimei 媚, experienced instant artistic harmony during a three-day summer writing camp.

aimei 媚 adds: “Merry is a very strong producer and Emily (Miso Extra) is an equally impressive lyricist. To be able to work with other females who are also Asian has felt natural and at home.”

The collaboration was made feasible thanks to Platoon’s ‘She Runs The Boards’ initiative, alongside ESEA Music and the collective efforts of shesaid.so. Additionally, Good Jamu—a beverage brand led by Asian women focusing on health—supported the event with refreshments. The newly established Platoon 7 Studios in Tileyard London set the stage for these artist groups, curated and directed by ESEA Music in partnership with Platoon, to facilitate their three-day workshops. The primary goal was to cast a light on ESEA Music’s community and boost the representation and impact of female professionals within the music industry.

These workshops yielded two exquisite singles from the artist groups, marking the program’s success. This began with MEYY x object blue’s ‘Shut Up’ released in November 2023, followed by ‘Better’ from Merry Lamb Lamb, featuring Miso Extra and aimei 媚.
