Forgoing his typical chilly minimalism, Mindchatter taps into new territory on this single, which blends an infectious techno beat with industrial, apocalyptic sound design. “Math” kicks off with a pulsating four-on-the-floor rhythm and Mindchatter’s trademark, airy vocal delivery, then builds slowly with menacing synth layers that reach a climax with a drop that is sure to move dancefloors.
“Everything is math, when you’re a sociopath,” Mindchatter sings in the chorus, contributing to the track’s gloomy, anti-authoritarian mood. Mindchatter uses this sonic and lyrical tension to evoke simmering anger that pushes against a cold, calculated system and the callous, purely-analytical people who run it.
