Taking inspiration from Little Simz, iSong and Ivorian Doll, Nova is set to make her own mark. With hard-hitting beats that meet Jeremy Mbiba’s luscious vocals, Nova’s sound is more distinctive than ever. Lyricism is a huge passion for Nova and is showcased in her catalogue of work which combined with her extraordinary performance skills showcases why her popularity has grown massively. Her talents in partnership with Scotland’s rising producers create independent and unique music that challenges stereotypes. Talking about the release she says: “I wrote No Fear after getting super into drill over the course of 2020 through female artists like Trillary Banks, Ivorian Doll and Teezandos. I loved what they were doing and wanted to get involved, I was really inspired by their look and the subject matter of their rhymes. Teezandos had a done a really sick Mad About Bars with R’n’Drill artist iSong which I absolutely rinsed so much for months.”
Continuing, “I’d heard Jeremy’s voice through another project I’d worked on and I loved loved loved the skill in which he would create these haunting gospel-like layers that were so enchanting and rich in culture. I got the beat off Louis Seivwright and me and Jeremy got to work.The process of making the artwork was dope too. I got to tag along to a car meet and see inside a subculture that I’m actually pretty interested in, cars are sick (even though I can’t drive lol). I’ve had a lot of fun performing this track live over the past few months so I’m super excited it’s getting out there. After recently moving to London, I’m hoping to jump on a few stages here and bang out No Fear (and other tracks like it) soon.
Jeremy also spoke highly of the recording process saying: “I’d say the writing process was really interesting as it’s a genre that is way out of my comfort zone but it was very exciting to challenge myself and inject my style into that field.”
Sitting amongst artists like Little Simz, Ghetts and ENNY, Nova won the award for Breakthrough MC/Vocalist in the DJ Mag Best of British Awards in December 2021.
Flirting with drill, rap and RnB sounds, Nova brings a high energy performance to every beat she steps on. Known for her feisty lyrics and stunning performances, she is a multi-award-winning rap artist and singer unafraid to challenge stereotypes as she experiments to create tracks with an independent sound.
