Queer artist jly spills her post-breakup story in her new release, “goodbye”!

The talented jly (Pronounced “July”) leads a double life as a radar systems engineer by day and a pop singer-songwriter at night. The LA-based artist walks through life with a different perspective. She can find inspiration in the ordinary while the everyday sounds of life can become a beat.

Jly’s got it all – from club bangers to breezy acoustic songs – and she sings, writes, and rocks it all. Her hooks are catchy, her riffs are tasty, and she doesn’t shy away from tackling issues like feminism, LGBTQ rights, individuality, and Asian American representation. Plus, her new punk-pop band augustleft (July is to the left of August – get it?) sees jly as its lead singer and headbanger!

She’s now gracing the world with her latest single/video, “goodbye.” The track tells us how she dealt with a significant event in her life. Anyone who has experienced a breakup knows it is not easy to leave behind. We all have found ourselves thinking about what we did wrong and what could’ve been. In this beautiful serenade, jly brings her emotions to the forefront. In “goodbye,” jly encourages us to take a step back and understand that closure is necessary to move on. It’s a reminder to focus on ourselves and our growth instead of fixating on the past. It’s a call to keep going and never give up.

Bittersweet would be the most appropriate way to describe it. While the rhythm is upbeat, almost uplifting, the lyrics tell another story: “Thought that we were fine. You’d feel the same with time. Did I mean anything in the end?” That’s some heavy stuff right there. The message is clear: We have to keep going no matter how hard it might seem. It’s a bittersweet reminder of the power of resilience and the importance of self-love and growth.

Taking a look at the video, jly presents how her life used to be. With many fulfilling moments of love and sharing. Explosions of colours and dancing, jly’s artistic expression at its finest. Offering quite a memorable experience, jly brings out the need to believe in oneself and to keep going no matter how hard it might seem. It’s a reminder that life is full of surprises and that we should never give up on our dreams.

“The music video for goodbye was filmed in my house and tells the story about what it’s like to walk through life post-breakup, where everything is encased in the memories of the love you used to have. The 80s synth-pop beats follow a WLW storyline of bittersweet reminiscence of love come and gone, highlighted with Euphoria style lighting, original jazz-funk choreography, fun retro outfits, and even the cameo of jly’s pup, Brie. This is the perfect sad bop for Pride month!”

Using her words, this is indeed the right tune for Pride Month! The song captures the essence with its vivid imagery and cleverly crafted lyrics. It speaks to LGBTQ+ individuals’ struggles and highlights how far the community has come in acceptance and celebration. The upbeat music and choreography also reflect self-expression and identity celebration. A definite must-have for music lovers, this one deserves a spot on your favourite playlist.
