New York City trio Chanpan share their new single and accompanying video, “speculations,” produced alongside Oscar Scheller. Arriving on the heels of their June EP autogratis and its subsequent remix project featuring HOMESHAKE and Tom VR, the release comes alongside an announcement of new Europe and Asia dates for their autogratis headline tour.
On “speculations,” Chanpan’s bold sound takes a direct turn for the dancefloor. Opening with acoustic guitar before erupting into four-on-the-floor kicks, ear-candy synths, and a propulsive, euphoric drop, the track wrestles with the anxieties of a newly launched music career and converts that uncertainty into an anthem for moving forward. Shot mostly on VHS, the accompanying music video follows Grace Dumdaw and identical twin brothers Lance and Matthew Tran on a day trip to Coney Island, dancing along the boardwalk until sundown.
Speaking on the meaning behind the single, Chanpan share, “speculations weigh our self-doubts from this newfound music career while ultimately choosing to move forward fearlessly. Let this song be permission to go for it and dance like no one is watching!”
Chanpan’s trajectory has moved rapidly over the past year. After initially busking on the streets of Chinatown to fund their debut EP endlessly, the trio kicked off the summer with a debut festival appearance at Governors Ball, earning early support across The FADER, Clash, and NME, alongside a feature performance on COLORS.
