Radical Softness and Lasting Craft: “KINDNESS” by Portuguese Soul Takes Over ModaLisboa

After missing ModaLisboa for a few seasons, it felt downright essential to be back. We were invited to Lisbon by APICCAPS Portugal, and anyone who knows us at KALTBLUT knows our enduring love for Portuguese design, timeless craftsmanship, and the unmatched calibre of Portuguese shoes. Touching down in Lisbon once again reminded us why this country’s tactile heritage remains so captivating.

Presented during the latest edition of ModaLisboa, staged under the overarching theme PRIORITY, the Portuguese footwear industry unveiled KINDNESS, the latest campaign initiative from Portuguese Soul by APICCAPS. In a restless global climate driven by conflict, digital overload, and constant hurry, KINDNESS frames compassion and mindfulness not as passive sentiments, but as urgent, conscious acts of resistance.

“KINDNESS is the core motto of the new campaign that we chose to unveil during this edition of ModaLisboa,” notes Cláudia Pinto, Director of Communication at APICCAPS. “Quite fittingly, the event’s theme is PRIORITY, and the footwear industry’s utmost priority is contributing to a better world. We live in a landscape undergoing profound transformation. As an industry consistently advocating for sustainability, conscious consumption, and the protection of ancestral savoir-faire, it only makes sense to act as an active voice of change. We want to be the natural choice for those seeking quality, authenticity, and objects made to endure.”

Against the ephemeral velocity of fast fashion, the showcase made a compelling case for intentionality. By centring generational leatherwork, slow-made footwear, and refined silhouettes, the campaign reframes Portuguese footwear as an antidote to disposable culture, where human touch, material longevity, and conscious design come together effortlessly.
