The inaugural SON Estrella Galicia Microfestival in Germany was nothing short of a triumph. It sold out in record time and set the stage for what promises to be an exciting new chapter in the music scene. With fans clamoring for more, organisers are thrilled to announce that additional events are slated for Berlin in the near future.
Held at the iconic BI NUU in the lively Kreuzberg district, this festival was a sensory delight. It united a diverse lineup of international artists, sustainable food offerings, and immersive beer experiences, solidifying its status as an essential fixture in Berlin’s live music landscape.
Building on the storied history of SON Estrella Galicia events across the UK, Spain, Brazil, Portugal, and the USA, this debut showcased how the harmonious blend of beer, music, and sustainability struck a chord with audiences. The evening began with a unique beer workshop, “What Does Your Beer Sound Like?”, conducted by Estrella Galicia’s Master Brewer, whisking VIPs and early attendees through the art of crafting the brewery’s celebrated beers.
Musically, the event was a sonic feast, headlined by the English Teacher, a UK band riding high on their Mercury Prize triumph and a breakout year. Their genre-defying sound and thought-provoking lyrics captivated the Berlin crowd, as they delivered a high-octane performance featuring hits from their debut album, This Could Be Texas, earning heartfelt cheers and solidifying their reputation as one of 2024’s hottest emerging acts.
Adding to the lineup was Berlin’s own RIP Swirl, enchanting the audience with their dreamlike, nostalgia-laden indie electronica. Attendees were transported through a soundscape that elegantly fused elements of shoegaze, trip-hop, and 90s alternative. Wrapping up the night was the magnetic Andreya Casablanca, half of the indie duo Gurr, whose DJ set injected vitality into the late hours with a striking mix of garage rock, 2000s dance beats, and pop-infused rhythms.
SON Estrella Galicia’s commitment to sustainability shone brightly throughout the event. Berlin’s Kochbox created a menu featuring locally-sourced ingredients designed to complement the brewery’s selection of beers, reflecting an investment in environmentally-friendly practices. Additionally, a live art installation by TrashMaidBerlin, known for repurposing marine debris into engaging artworks, reinforced the festival’s focus on environmental awareness and community involvement.
With excitement already brewing for future installments, fans can rejoice—SON Estrella Galicia Microfestival will be returning to Berlin regularly, with Granada confirmed as the next destination.
