“Lavatanssit” Spring/Summer 2025 Collection

Imagine the stillness of a Finnish summer night, only broken by the distant notes of a bittersweet waltz. Rolf Ekroth’s latest collection captures the enigmatic charm of traditional Finnish dance pavilions scattered across the Finnish countryside. In these pavilions, everyone is in search of a dream, from wallflowers to nighttime legends. While Finnish people may appear stoic, beneath their reserve burns a blend of romance and melancholy.

This collection, inspired by Ekroth’s personal experiences, is a playful nod to longing—a love letter to summer nights spent at the dance pavilion. It dances with contrasts, mirroring the romantic yet melancholic undertones of Finnish culture. The collection’s standout piece is a life vest top adorned with romantic floral prints—a poignant statement on Finland’s drowning statistics that marries life-saving functionality with aesthetic flair.

Ekroth reimagines traditional dance attire with a contemporary edge, merging safety with dreamy, hand-painted floral prints and innovative silhouettes. Tailored suits showcase relaxed elegance through sleek lines and subtle details while flowing dresses in airy fabrics capture the romance of a lakeside dance, adorned with hand-painted floral designs. The collection also features handmade lace collars, caps, a hand-knitted macramé bag, and dandelion jeans decorated with 250 handcrafted pendants—each pair requiring over 200 hours to create. Similarly, the bombers are detailed with hand-knitted pendants, adding a distinctive touch of meticulous craftsmanship.

Collaborations and Craftsmanship

In collaboration with Kalevala, the renowned Finnish jewellery brand, Ekroth has translated his hand-painted rose motif into versatile earrings crafted from 100% recycled silver. These pieces continue the tradition of repurposing jewellery and feature a flexible clip, perfect for styling with various outfits. A showstopper in the collection is a dress embellished with 180 earrings, each piece encouraging a view of the world through rose-tinted glasses. An 8-bit version of the rose motif, both hand-painted and pixelated, is also featured on a silk scarf.

Partnering again with Novita, Ekroth delves into the realm of Finnish craftsmanship with novel textures and knitted forms. The handmade lace knits pay homage to Finnish heritage, with patterns reflecting a deep respect for tradition. Novita and Ekroth offer comprehensive yarn and instruction sets, welcoming enthusiasts to replicate the runway knits and partake in the magic of Lavatanssit.

Racing Inspirations

Drawing inspiration from Finland’s reputation as a racing powerhouse, Ekroth has collaborated with Puma and their Speedcat shoes to honour the nation’s legacy. Subtle hints and details related to rallying and motorcycling permeate the collection, a nod to Ekroth’s childhood memories of watching races.

Rolf Ekroth’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection is not just a fashion statement; it’s an invitation to celebrate sustainability, inclusivity, and the timeless charm of Finnish dance pavilions. This remarkable blend of tradition and innovation ensures that Ekroth continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
