Sound Of The Week: flowerovlove

Singer-songwriter Flowerovlove has just dropped her sparkling new track “BOYS,” marking her exciting first release of 2024. This infectious indie-rock anthem is the perfect backdrop for spring flings and the upcoming festival circuit. With its catchy melody and upbeat vibe, “BOYS” perfectly encapsulates the intense focus of a deep crush. It follows the successful release of the radiant pop track “a girl like me” from November last year. The production talents of Jonah Summerfield (Holly Humberstone, Sasha Sloan) and Rob Milton (The 1975, Holly Humberstone, Fred again..) come together to craft this latest hit.

flowerovlove says of the single: “BOYS is about being so deeply infatuated with boys that you can’t eat, sleep, think or breathe. They’re all you can think about, like they’re in your veins, in the best way possible, because fantasising about a crush is the best and most giddy feeling ever.”

The stunning music video, directed by Michelle Janssen, features Flowerovlove in a fantastical setting where she conjures up the ideal boy in her imagination, only to dance with him before he disappears — perhaps he was nothing more than an illusion.

Flowerovlove is rapidly becoming a standout name in both the music and fashion realms, having been highlighted in elite watchlists by i-D, CLASH, Notion, Nylon, NME, DIY, Rolling Stone, The Forty Five, and PORTER. She has adorned the covers of recent editions of BRICKS, Behind The Blinds, Puss Puss, Notion, Mission Statement, BEAT, and Blanc Magazine. Flowerovlove also received accolades as Radio 1’s Future Artist Of The Month and was recognized as one of the Artists To Watch in 2023 by VEVO and Amazon Music. As a model and singer-songwriter, she has made appearances at Paris Fashion Week and has been embraced by fashion powerhouses like Miu Miu and Simone Rocha, while also leading campaigns for Gucci and Maison Kitsuné.

Her music, which harmoniously blends nature-inspired lyrics with bright, comforting tunes, gained significant praise with her debut EP “Think Flower” in 2021, and continued with the intriguing sonic shift in 2022’s “A Mosh Pit In The Clouds.” Influenced by acts such as Tame Impala, Flowerovlove masterfully fuses her love for music, nature, and fashion, demonstrating a profound understanding and skill that belie her age. Using floral symbolism, she creates an artistic expression of growth and transformation, compelling her audience to engage deeply with her music and her messages of sustainability and environmental conservation.

After a series of sold-out shows in London and Paris, Flowerovlove is set to perform at several major festivals this summer, including Glastonbury, Liverpool Sound City, Camp Bestival, Live at Leeds In the Park, Tramlines Festival, and Kendal Calling. She will also be making her debut in the United States with performances in November at Baby’s Alright in NYC and the Moroccan Lounge in LA.

“BOYS” is a stellar continuation of Flowerovlove’s successful journey, signalling another impressive year for this ascending superstar. Keep an eye on this space for more music revelations.
