AKA HEX emerges as an electrifying collaboration between Aïsha Devi and Slikback, bringing forth their debut EP on Devi’s imprint, Danse Noire. This announcement follows a striking live premiere at the Unsound festival, where the duo captivated audiences alongside special guests bela and Lord Spikeheart. The first single, “Do The Rite Thing,” is now available with pre-order links, setting the stage for a highly anticipated release.
Aïsha Devi is an artist who consistently pushes boundaries, venturing far beyond the traditional confines of club music and the avant-garde into realms that are both unpredictable and richly enigmatic. Born in Switzerland and rooted in Nepali Indigenous culture, her hybrid identity shapes her approach to music, allowing her to flourish in the underground scene not just as a producer and vocalist, but as an innovative curator. Co-founding Danse Noire in 2013, she launched her breakout EP, “Hakken Dub / Throat Dub,” followed by the complex tapestry of sounds in her 2015 album, “Of Matter and Spirit.” Devi’s passion for sonic exploration continued with the release of “DNA Feelings” on Houndstooth in 2018, culminating in the atmospheric “Death Is Home,” which featured a collaboration with none other than Slikback himself last year.
On the other side of the globe, Nairobi’s Slikback has carved a niche as one of the most daring producers today. His unique sound palette draws from an expansive range of genres, including club, noise, ambient, and rap, which culminates in a psychedelic web of high-intensity auditory experiences. After his debut on Nyege Nyege’s sister label, Hakuna Kulala, Slikback has consistently enriched his discography through his Bandcamp page, compiling standout tracks into this year’s explosive double-LP, “SLIKBACK.” This 22-track collection showcases a future-facing, soundsystem-ready vision of experimental club music.
As AKA HEX, Aïsha Devi and Slikback meld their artistic visions into something truly unique. Their collaboration fuses kinetic, bass-heavy rhythms with sharp, sci-fi-inflected soundscapes and otherworldly vocals. This marks Devi’s most dancefloor-centric material in years, while Slikback ventures into unchartered sonic territories, merging avant-pop, experimental club, and hallucinatory ambience in a way that promises to resonate across the underground music landscape. Keep your ears open for this groundbreaking duo as they redefine the limits of contemporary electronic music.
