Sound Of The Week: Gudu & Friends Vol 2

Peggy Gou’s Gudu label has just released the second instalment of its Various Artists compilation series, Gudu & Friends Vol. 2. The series made its debut last year with Gudu & Friends Vol. 1, which presented eight tracks by both well-known artists associated with the label (DMX Krew, Mogwaa, Hiver, Dukwa, Brian de Palma) and emerging talents (Closet Yi, Salamanda, Lady Blacktronika). True to its global vision, the first volume featured artists from South Korea, Italy, the UK, the USA, and Ukraine, underlining Gudu’s commitment to international collaboration.

Now available digitally and in a limited cassette edition, Gudu & Friends Vol. 2 introduces several newcomers to the label—Alinka, Gina Breeze, Jordan Nocturne (with Coco Cole), Minju, and Nyra. They join returning artists such as Hiver, Mogwaa, Dukwa, and Matisa.

Each edition of the Gudu & Friends series features artwork themed around the lunar new year. This year, for Vol. 2, the artwork was created by illustrator Jin Young Choi, who also works on the Gudu Mix series, celebrating the year of the dragon.

About Gudu:

Founded in 2019 with the release of Peggy Gou’s ‘Starry Night,’ which was among her most popular tracks, Gudu has continued to release several successful singles from Gou, including ‘I Go’ and ‘Nabi’. But the label represents much more than just Gou’s works. It showcases a diverse array of talent from around the world, such as the UK’s DMX Krew and Special Request, Italy’s Hiver and Matisa, and beyond. Gudu has organized label nights across Europe and curated its own stage at Peggy’s Pleasure Gardens festival.

In addition to the Gudu & Friends series, the label has also started Club Gudu—a series focusing on dancefloor tracks and is preparing a robust lineup of releases for 2024, including the label’s very first album.
