Sound of the Week: Junglepussy

Brooklyn’s Junglepussy returns with the deeply personal project Jp5000 which sees the maverick artist take a more mellow and introspective turn, following 2020’s kaleidoscopic, genre-melding ‘Jp4’, which consolidated her status as a true trailblazer. We re-enter into the psychedelic playground of Junglepussy’s music with ‘Critiqua’, which comes accompanied by a visual steeped in idiosyncratic style and attitude. Across its five tracks, Jp5000 makes full use of a hotbed of talent, drawing production credits from Suzi Analogue, Nick Hakim and more to ensure that the latest project is another standout; cinematic, intricate, with psychedelic flourishes which perfectly complement the lyrical wordplay from the rap visionary.

With a name as bold as Junglepussy and an artistry to match, Shayna McHayle is New York’s premier rap rule-breaker. Honest, funny, and freaky, her rhymes span from the explicitly audacious to the tenderly relatable. Junglepussy’s music has led her to lecture at Yale and Columbia, create her own Junglepussy Juice, star in 2018 feature film Support The Girls, and embark on sold-out domestic and international tours. From big screen film and television appearances to the culmination of four acclaimed album releases to date, Satisfaction Guaranteed (2014), Pregnant With Success (2015), JP3 (2018) and JP4 (2020). Junglepussy constantly evolves and reinvents her sound with every project.

Watch this space for an upcoming movie project, “The Perfect Find”, based on the novel of the same name, coming this year too.
