Sound Of The Week: Karlita

French producer Karlita presents the 19th release on Monstart with Live in your world play in mine. For this new opus, Karlita navigates through the universe of video games, with sharp rhythms, bewitching voice notes and soaring sound ambiences oriented UK-G, juke and 2step. She presents us a project rich of 8 tracks, which revisit the experience of her youth on the eve of the major advent of the Internet era.

Deeply inspired by digital aesthetics as Tekken and Gran Turismo can be landmarks, Karlita is a 2000s child. We dive into an imaginary cultivating a sweetened nostalgia, enhanced by the brilliant superposition of repetitive kicks and nonchalant voices, characteristic of the Karlita touch. The ultimate nod to the PlayStation catchphrase that she switched to call her musical gold nugget, “Live In Your World, Play In Mine”.

This project was a challenge for me. To transmit my emotions, while offering rhythmic tracks calibrated for a dancefloor. Finding the harmony and balance, between softness and vulnerability vs. the raw and energetic aspect of club music

A true ode to powerful femininity where Karlita’s haunting voice clearly identifies the musical color of the project, the artist catalyzes all her inherent force, her emotions, and her love to bring the public into a musical deep journey. Her artistic entity has been steadily shaping itself following her previous releases and especially the resounding success of “Good Girl” on streaming platforms released on September 5, 2019. Karlita further defines herself with this eloquent project distilling varied emotions, all in sensuality.

Karlita has been rocked since her childhood by the trip-hop, ambient and electronica rhythms of the 90s, early 2000s. As a teenager in the myspace era, it is above all the love of music, the desire to share, to touch others with words transformed into sounds, that Karlita started to compose in her room, inspired by her environment and her stories. She is one of those artists who considers music without limits, in an instinctive way, in an almost therapeutic approach, playing with codes and freeing herself from genres. A process of artistic development led her to consider her emotions as an outlet for inspiration. This is how Karlita explored the world of deep house during her first two EPs, “Lazy Days” released in 2019 and “Amore Fabola” in 2020, with notably the very loud success on streaming platforms of the track “Good Girl”, from her first EP. In 2021, she caught the attention of a different audience with “160 BPM for lovers”, a one-shot deal released on Bandcamp for free. Raw proposal but a real declaration of love to the juke. Karlita is a spontaneous and singular artist who creates according to her desires. She seizes her daily experiences to give to the world of vaporous, mysterious, obsessive musical works. .
